How to Help
The best way to help Silas right now is to help him be seen.
Silas is 5. He has Canavan disease, a rare leukodystrophy, and most people have never heard of it. Every time someone shares his story, another person learns what Canavan is, and another family might find out they're not alone.
You don't need to be an expert, and you don't need to give money. Here are a few simple ways to help.
Share Silas's story
Tell one person who's never heard of Canavan. Send them to Silas's Story, or copy and paste this:
Meet Silas. He's 5 and lives with Canavan disease, a rare leukodystrophy. thesilasproject.org
Volunteer with us
We're a small family team, and Silas comes first. If you'd like to lend a hand, we'd be so grateful. Here are some ways people can help:
Share Silas's story. On social media, with friends, at church, school or work.
Help with events. We don't have any events planned yet. When we do, we'll need people to help set up, spread the word and welcome families.
Lend your skills. Photography, graphic design, writing and editing, or website help.
Help families find us. If you know a family affected by Canavan or another leukodystrophy, or you work with families like ours, let them know about our Connect page.
Tell us a little about yourself and how you'd like to help. We read every message, but please be patient. We may be slow to reply.
Donations
Donations coming soon
The Silas Project is an Oregon nonprofit public benefit corporation. We aren't accepting donations yet. We'll open donations once our nonprofit status is approved. Want to know when?
For now, the best gift is sharing Silas's story. Thank you for seeing him.
Families, start here
If your family lives with Canavan disease or another leukodystrophy, we'd love to see your child's smile and help you find other families walking a similar road.
The Silas Project shares information to help families learn and connect. It is not medical advice.
